Heather Lucas: Master Colorist, Education Director | Balayage, Foil & Gray Blending Expert
House of Bumble Collective Member.
Heather has a way of making you feel like she’s been doing your hair for years, even on your first visit.
With 14 years of experience, Heather is a Certified Redken Colorist, West Coast Hair Design’s Education Director, and one of thirty stylists in the country chosen for the Bumble and bumble House of Bumble Collective, selected to represent professional education at major industry shows and events nationwide. She is also the person our team turns to when a color question doesn’t have an obvious answer.
Credentials only tell part of her story.
Finding a new colorist is one of the most vulnerable things a woman can do with her hair. You are trusting someone with something that affects how you feel every single day. Heather understands that. It is why she calls before your first appointment, why she asks the questions no one else asks, and why guests who find her tend to stay for years.
The consultation that changes everything
Guests who have seen colorists all over the world sit down with Heather and say it is the best color experience of their lives. Not because of what she does to their hair, but because of what happens before she touches it.
She calls new guests before their first appointment to introduce herself, learn a little about their hair, and answer questions. She asks you to bring photos of your hair from a time you loved it most. Once you’re in the salon, she studies your hair in person, asks about your color history, lifestyle, maintenance, what has worked and what hasn’t, and what you want your hair to look like.
Before she touches your hair, you understand the plan, what it will take to get there, and how you’ll maintain it.
That clarity is rare. Heather has made it her standard.
Praise for Heather
“I’ve been attending West Coast Hair Design since I moved to Jacksonville a few years ago. I love Jacksonville, but was concerned about finding a stylist after having been spoiled in more metropolitan cities, London, Tokyo, San Francisco. Heather Lucas is the most experienced colorist I’ve had the privilege to book in my entire hair journey.”
— Google review, Jacksonville
“Heather and Anna Hendrix-Carter are the two people I credit most for building what West Coast Hair Design has become.”
— Linda Deason, Owner.
A colorist who understands the details
Gray hair is one of the areas where Heather’s understanding of color theory really shows. There isn’t one gray formula that works for everyone. She looks at how much gray you have, where it’s concentrated, your natural color, previous color, and how you want to maintain it before deciding whether the right approach is modern gray coverage, gray blending, highlighting, or a longer-term gray transition.
That same precision carries into her balayage, and foil work. Heather uses hand-painted balayage, strategic foiling, or a combination of techniques depending on the starting point and the result she’s trying to create. Her work ranges from bright blondes and lived-in color to bronde, dimensional brunettes, complex blonding, and color correction.
The goal isn’t simply beautiful color on the day you leave. Heather considers how the placement will grow out, what maintenance will realistically look like, and how to keep the color believable between appointments.
Education is part of who she is
Heather doesn’t just take advanced classes. Education is part of her job.
As West Coast Hair Design’s Education Director, a role she has held for four years, Heather helps train our apprentices, coordinates advanced education for the salon, and teaches the team techniques and color knowledge she brings home from her own training.
She continues to travel regularly for advanced education because staying current isn’t something she considers optional.
Where it all began
Heather’s history with West Coast Hair Design started long before she became one of our leading colorists. She first came to the salon with her mother when she was fourteen and asked Linda if there was any way she could be part of it. At fifteen, she took her first Bumble and bumble class right here in the salon.
She is also a new mom, with three dogs and a cat waiting for her at home, and somehow still shows up every day with the same energy for her guests that she has for her own family.
Booking with Heather
Guests leave Heather’s chair knowing not just what their hair looks like, but why it looks that way and exactly how to maintain it. That confidence is what keeps them coming back. Heather is welcoming new guests for balayage, lived-in color, foil highlights, blonding, dimensional brunette color, modern gray coverage, gray blending, gray transitions, and color correction at West Coast Hair Design in Jacksonville, Florida. Her schedule fills well in advance, so we recommend booking early.
