Many of you have wanted to try or attempt to get a “balayage” done to your own head of hair before. During this time in our nation, we are unsure of the next hair appointment, nail appointment, and or wax appointment. It’s a time that feels like someone just hit the “pause” button.
Now you’re wondering, how does balayage come into play with a pandemic? What we wanted to explain to you as a salon is that the beauty of this hair technique is the long term effects. Not only is maintenance super low, but as it grows out, your roots are seamless!
In an unknown time when you can’t get back in for an appointment, or not sure when your salon is reopening, a balayage holds and only looks better over time. Each hairstylist has their own technique of how they achieve your desired “look” of balayage. Some prefer a seamless transition, while others prefer a bolder look and even more popular is adding that pop of blonde in the front.
For the majority, the true ‘balayage’ the technique is hand-painted which creates a seamless blend from the root to ends of your hair.
Balayage Maintenance
Between your balayage color appointments (which stretch from 3-5 months depending on your hair), it is important to maintain the tone and shade of your hair. In order to maintain this, along with your Bumble and bumble color-safe shampoo and conditioner, a professional gloss is necessary. A gloss appointment is normally under an hour and a great way to stretch out the life of your full balayage color service. We recommend coming in every 6-8 weeks for a gloss and a trim.
A gloss is a conditioning color treatment added to your hair after we have lightened it to your desired level or the lightest we can get in one session while still maintaining the integrity of your hair. Glosses are designed to cancel out any unwanted pigments that naturally come through during the lightening process. (Example red, orange, yellow)
We use Redken Shades EQ the #1 Gloss in America, it lasts anywhere from 16-20 shampoos. WCHD advises guests to shampoo their hair only 3-4 times a week to ensure longevity of their color and proper oil distribution. We also recommend maintenance glosses every 5-8 weeks to keep those unwanted tones at bay, keep your hair healthy and the color fresh! Bumble and bumble offers an at-home gloss that will also extend the life of your color. This take-home gloss is available in 5 shades. Bumble and bumble Color Gloss will brighten color-treated hair and will keep it looking it’s absolute best between appointments.
The beauty of “balayage” is no matter what happens your hair will look flawless through the weeks to come!
We hope you are taking care during this quarantine time, and we can’t wait until we can see you in the salon again!
